More than three years in the making, Jérémie Souteyrat’s photo collection portrays fifty-three unique Tokyo homes (ie) designed by architects including Kengo Kuma, Shigeru Ban, Kazuyo Sejima, Ryue Nishizawa, Jun Aoki, and Go Hasegawa. Souteyrat not only presents the buildings themselves, but also captures them in the context of their communities and residents, uncovering with his expatriate’s eyes the beauty—and dissonances—existing in Tokyo neighborhoods perhaps beyond the notice of most locals. The result is an entirely new style of architectural photography that gives a feel for the everyday life that is lived in and around each ie.
Includes an essay by Akiko Otake and an interview with Kengo Kuma.
