A fantasy-filled world that grows ever more enthralling with the decades.

A protégé of the surrealist artist and art critic Shuzo Takiguchi, Toshiko Okanoue found her métier in photo collages inspired by the work of Max Ernst. Over a brief seven years in the 1950s, she channeled her awesome creativity into fantastic worlds pieced together from the pages of Life, Vogue, and other overseas magazines that flooded Japan in the postwar. This book presents some one hundred major works that were shown to great acclaim in a 2019 retrospective at the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum.
