Absent, yet still here: a poignant tribute to two lives.
For three years, photographer Akihito Yoshida chronicled the lives of his grandmother and cousin in a small town in the southern Japanese prefecture of Miyazaki. Theirs was a loving existence, filled with unassuming yet precious moments—until it all suddenly ended with his cousin’s disappearance and suicide at the age of twenty-three. This is the revised trade edition of a collection, previously only available in 111 self-published copies, whose images touched hearts at the 2017 Kyotographie photography festival (under the title Falling Leaves) and other showings around the world.
