Seoul, fall to winter: Over seven months till the coming of spring, Japanese photographer Kawashima Kotori walked the Korean capital, at first alone with his senses taut, and then, little by little, with the feeling that the city had gotten to know him and grown more embracing. The images he encountered in that time—of the nighttime streets, of the crisp air, of the river Han, of the people he met, of solitude, of teeming passion—are captured in works remarkable for their concentration and release of energy, now brought together into a single volume.
Photographer Kawashima Kotori graduated in French studies from Waseda University. Major publications include Baby Baby (Singpoosha, 2007), Mirai-chan (Nanarokusha, 2011), Myojo (Evening Star; Nanarokusha, 2014), Oyasumi kamitachi (Good Night, Dear Kami; coauthored with Tanikawa Shuntaro, Nanarokusha, 2014), Ohayo moshimoshi aishiteru (Good Morning, Hello, I Love You; CCC Art Lab, 2020), (Sekai)² ([World]²; piyo piyo press, 2021); and s(e)oulmate (YYY Press, 2024). He is the recipient of the 2011 Kodansha Publication Culture Award for Photography and the 2014 Kimura Ihei Award.
