Katagami stencils are made by treating handmade Japanese paper with fermented persimmon tannin and are carved with a huge variety of designs and patterns principally for kimono fabric.The  nely honed carving techniques and designs generated still charm and fascinate us today. This book presents some 180 samples carefully selected from the huge collection of a predecessor company in Kyoto.The panorama of 62 motifs ranging fromseasonal themes such as the New Year's holiday and plum blossoms tobasic patterns of stripes and arabesques areall accompanied by detailed commentary.
