Rolling right along: a look back at a quarter century of artistic activity.

Primal, powerful, and puzzling, the art of Izumi Kato began with paintings in the 1990s before expanding into wood sculpture and other media in the new century. In 2007 he participated in the Venice Biennale to wide acclaim, launching himself on an internationally active career throughout Asia and Europe. The 214 works here—paintings and sculpture plus soft-vinyl figurines, lithographs, and more—uncover the full range of his creativity from 1994 into the present. Includes an artist biography, bibliography, and list of works.

Izumi Kato was born in 1969 in Shimane Prefecture. Major recent exhibitions include Like a Rolling Snowball at the Hara Museum in Tokyo (2019) and solo shows at the Red Brick Art Museum in Beijing (2018) and Fundación Casa Wabi in Puerto Escondido, Mexico (2019).
