“Journey” is the key theme in this latest chronicle of the life shared by a photographer and an actress (the word is hidden in the title: ryoko means “journey” in Japanese). The volume covers four trips—to France, Poland and Germany, Okinawa, and Spain—from 2014 to 2018, and the couple’s voyage through daily life post-April 2020, when the pandemic changed their world.
Tomoki Qwajima was born in 1978 in the city of Okayama in Okayama Prefecture. He graduated from Musashino Art University in 2002 and trained under Kentaro Kamata before embarking in 2004 on an independent career as a magazine, advertising, and celebrity photographer. In 2013 he published Shiseikatsu (Private Life), a book of photographs of actress Yumi Adachi taken over two and a half years. He married Adachi in 2014; Ga Ga, a collection of photographs of their life together, was issued by Seigensha in 2019. He continues to photograph Adachi daily.
