“Papa” keeps 1,200 pigs on his farm in Kagawa on the Japanese island of Shikoku. Raised under his credo that pigs tended with love will taste good too, the animals seem as happy as can be. Though he is always painfully aware that he will eventually be sending his charges on to slaughter, still Papa takes joy in living alongside them if only for a brief while here on his farm, where each and every life sparkles amid the mud with its own precious light. This collection presents photographs, most of them published for the first time, from the same series as the widely acclaimed Pigs and Papa (2010).
